Colors in Motion

The common thread for all my paintings is capturing colors in
motion.  This is achieved by pouring paint directly onto dry
paper, pouring paint into a tub of water and picking up the
picture, or pouring paint onto paper soaked in ocean water.
Each method has very different results.

I dilute oil paints with lots of turpentine and pour onto
watercolor paper.
This increases the transparency.  Tempera paints are often used
to accent
with silver, bronze, and gold.    It's a little bit like cooking as
ingredients come together in combinations that have never
existed.  Gravity and knowing when to stop is critical!

My favorite colors are cadmium yellow, alizarin crimson, phthalo
green, and cobalt blue.  As the viewer, I hope that you can
experience the joy.  If you'd like to paint with me, give me a call.

Recently retired as a research nutritionist from MUSC, I look
forward to more painting, sailing, and mission work with my
husband, Paul Mitchell.  We live on James Island, South Carolina.
